I don’t know whether my cleaning every day keeps my surroundings clean or not, it helped me to be calm and do something very positive and quietly do things irrespective of claps and jeers.Visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal This one hour per day taught me to be quiet and do work silently.

The commitment to do one hour Swacch Bharat every day is a great task and tests one will and also character. One very important thing is the commitment, which I had never had during my college days. While cleaning a pillar, one day, two youths in a motorbike sarcastically said, “Old man, no work for you?” and zipped past through me.Įveryday I had a new experience and a lesson or two, which I have not learnt over sixty years of my life. On the other day, one passer by sarcastically asked, “Sir, How much are you paid for this job?”. We need in fact bow before you, for the service you are doing for this country, even without recognition.”. In front of policemen and army men, I am nothing. Just for the joy of doing it, I am doing every day 1 hour sir.” He saluted me. Modi has inspired me through his Swacch Bharath campaign. I said, “Sir, I had just a few months back retired from a bank. Why you should do this? Are you working?”. One day a policeman had stopped his vehicle and asked, “Sir, I am seeing you every day. I understood the significance of silence. Another person on another day asked, “Why are you cleaning? Anyway politicians would paste posters again. What is the use?”. One day a regular walker asked, “Are you a government employee?”. Then I started Swacch Bharat every day with a small stone, two bottles of water with a sprayer. Then on seeing me from a nearby flat, an elderly gave me a bottle of water to sprinkle and remove posters. It was very tough to remove, especially on the first day. I took a small stone and removed some posters. I realised I need something to remove posters. I just went to clean without anything in my hand. So I went for cleaning pillars near Begumpet, next to CM’s office, Hyderabad. But no one wants you at home to take a broom and clean. It is easy to sit at home and be an arm chair critic. On the first day, I told my wife that I would go for a walk.

I did not know how to start the campaign. I have been doing not much, but 1 hour per day near my area for the last one month. Moreover, the winners will also get a chance to be part of our 12-hour Cleanathon and meet our campaign ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. If you have done work in any or all of these areas, send in your entries – 5 photos, a small write up of what you have done and the impact that has been created. NDTV will pick the top three people and ideas and on the 2nd of October, which is also celebrated as Rashtriya Swachhta Divas, will showcase their work on our channels. Maybe you are planting trees, talking to people about sanitation, physically cleaning up places, coming up with ideas to clean the air, reduce plastic use, educating people on how to be clean and healthy. You can also nominate two of your friends to take the #SwachhIndia challenge. If you have done anything in the following field, then, we request you to take part in our Swachh Warrior Contest.

NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India is looking for swachhagrahis, waste warriors, women, men and children who are helping make India clean and influence clean habits. Today 2 Indians die a minute from air pollution, diarrhoea kills more children under the age of 5 than any other disease and lack of sanitation has allowed for the spread of deadly diseases. We as citizens need to step up and start a Swachhagraha.
